Fire Sprinkler Inspection (NFPA 25)

NFPA 25 sets the minimum requirements for inspection, testing, and maintenance of water-based fire protection systems. California enforces NFPA 25 for commercial and multi-family properties statewide — including in Kern County.

What gets inspected

• Sprinkler heads (condition, obstruction, corrosion, paint)

• Alarm and supervisory devices
• Fire department connections (FDC)
• Backflow preventer
• Pipe condition and hangers

Inspection frequency

NFPA 25 sets different intervals depending on the component — weekly, monthly, quarterly, semi-annual, annual, and 5-year. Most property owners need a quarterly visual check and a full annual inspection, plus an internal pipe inspection every 5 years.
